SOLID EARTH LTD offers professional execution of all earth components of your building project.
We specialize in the Adobe Brick Technique, but also have experience in most other unstabilized earthbuilding techniques, such as Cob, Light Earth or Wattle-and-Daub.
For construction work we usually operate on a fixed price basis, for consultations we charge tuition rates on an hourly basis. Please feel free to contact us for a quote or if you have any further queries.
Full subcontracting of adobe work on new houses and extensions
Construction work includes:
- brick laying of load-bearing walls or post-and-beam infill walls (usually 300mm thick)
- walls up to 2.7m stud height
- earthquake reinforcing of walls
- integrating services into the walls (power)
- adjoining work and wall finishing
Feature walls in timber-framed buildings
Construction work includes:
- brick laying of 150mm thick interior brick veneer wall tied back to a timber frame
- feature walls up to 5m high
- adjoining work and wall finishing
Restoration work on historic buildings
Construction work includes:
- Assessment of structure, traditional materials and technique used and damage
- Recommendations regarding roof structure
- Repair of structural damage on earth walls, cracks and openings
- Re-rendering using traditional recipes with the aim of bringing the building back to its original appearance
- Lime plasters for a higher performance weather protection
Assistance of owner builders
If you intend to carry out some or all the earthbuilding work yourself, we can assist you:
- Recommendations for organizing and setting out your building site,
- Advice regarding quantity estimations, tools, etc
- On-job training for brick laying
- Consultancies regarding earth wall finishing
- Checking for suitability of soils
